So many things inspired the Ladies Garden Journal series, from my Grandmother's flower gardens to early 20th century periodicals, but I have always had a soft spot for Edwardian gardening journals. Every time I would see one, I would think, "How can I turn that into cross stitch?" Here is your answer! So, take a stitching walk with me through a whimsical garden and meet the flowers that live there. Ask your favorite needlework shop about the Ladies Garden Journal Finishing Kit, so you can turn your needle-sketches into your own gardening journal.
#1 - First on our list is Sweet William, one of three "Gentle-blooms."
Stitch Count:
Sampler: 89 x 89
Stitched on 32 ct. Gray linen from Weeks Dye Works with Classic Colorworks
#2 – No flower proclaims "cottage" and "home" more than the esteemed Hollyhock. She is queen of her kingdom, watching over the entire garden from her billowing heights.
Stitch Count:
Sampler: 89 x 89
Stitched on 32 ct. Beige linen from Weeks Dye Works with Classic Colorworks
#3 - How does your garden grow? One of my gardening goals is the creation of a woodland garden in a corner of our shady backyard. Solomon's Seal is on my list of plants to add. I love the palm like leaves and dainty white flowers.
Stitch Count:
Sampler: 89 x 89
Stitched on 32 ct. Gray linen from Weeks Dye Works with Classic Colorworks
#4 - Roses, a cottage garden isn't complete without them. Whether it is a border of shrub roses, a trellis of climbing roses or a finely trimmed topiary, they become the center piece. I admit that I have had issues keeping roses healthy, so I have changed to more recent cultivars of Knock-Out Roses and the newest Drift varieties. They fill my rose loving heart!

#5 - Is there a friendlier flower than Johnny Jump Up? He bids you a "Good Day" whenever you see him, always with a smile upon his "face" and when you invite him & his friends into your garden, the party never ceases, so many happy faces!!

Sampler: 89 x 89

#6 – We have come to the close of our garden visit and our final visit is with Mari Gold. She is such a workhorse of the garden, protecting other plants and blooming for all she is worth. I think marigolds are like snowflakes, no two are alike, colors and patterns always different, always make you smile, just like the butterflies flitting in for a visit.
